Collaborations with schools, social service agencies, businesses and industries, communities, and other learning environments are made for educational purposes.
Quality “youth development, extended day programs” that expand learning opportunities that support developmentally appropriate cognitive outcomes are part of what we do at ELS. Our programs run directly after school, weekends, summer vacations, holidays, and are housed in either a school, church or community organization.
ELS is also a Michigan Department of Education approved Supplemental Educational Services (SES) provider. This enables us to offer up to 32 hours of free tutoring for students attending schools that have not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years. Tutoring is available in a variety of subjects such as English/Language Arts, Math, Science and more.
Four major components:
- Integrating academic support into our curriculum/program
- Using technology to teach and learn
- Collaborations with schools, private businesses and community organizations for higher-learning opportunities and workforce development
- Entrepreneurship
Outcomes: students show increased interest and abilities in reading, developing new skills and interests; showing higher aspirations for the future, including intentions to complete high school and go to college, thereby enhancing academic achievement.
Students become resources for many facets of their communities, including service organizations, small local businesses, and federal and state departments.
